F-droid
- F-Droid
- f-droid default repo update is extremely slow (takes approx. 3-7 days after gitlab metadata update. If custom patch is necessary, it may take 1-2 weeks by default. I block firebase at the DNS level, so if there is no other advantage on f-droid build, it might be better (for the peace of mind) to switch over to Google Play build).
- Disable all mirrors of default repo, and add
https://cloudflare.f-droid.org/repo
. (Pinging f-droid.org takes about 300-400ms from KR, while cloudflare guarantees 30-50ms response even if Cloudflare routes traffic to NRT/KIX/HKG.) - Custom repos: Guardian Project (+Archive),
https://fdroid.frostnerd.com/fdroid/repo
.
DNS Over TLS/HTTPS
- DNS over TLS (DoT) is the only option provided by native Android, so DoT is preferred, but there are some evil 'Public WiFi' (Public WiFi services by Government of Korea/local governments/other public institutions) block port 853 to snoop on user traffic, so I install one DNS over HTTPS (DoT) apps for feature parity. (Most 'Public Witi' has Captive Portal and I need to disable DoT to go through Captive anyway.)
- DoT:
